EPA Awards ArrowStream SmartWay Tranport Partner Status
ArrowStream earned highest score achievable to quality
CHICAGO, July 15, 2009 -- ArrowStream, a leading provider of supply chain solutions for the food industry, announced today that it earned the highest score possible (1.25) to qualify for the U.S. EPA SmartWay Transport Partner program. Selection for the program is based on a company’s commitment to promoting greater energy efficiency and air quality within the freight transport sector.
In 2008, ArrowStream, en route to earning its three-year SmartWay distinction, shipped 42 percent of its freight and recorded 51 percent of total miles driven with SmartWay carriers. ArrowStream’s 2009 goal is to ship more than 50 percent of its freight with SmartWay carriers and to award a Carrier of the Year from among them. The company will continue to reduce the trucking industry’s carbon footprint by leveraging its network to maximize loads and reduce the number of empty miles driven.
SmartWay Transport is an innovative collaboration between EPA and the freight sector to improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions, and improve energy security. Companies that participate in SmartWay Transport programs save money, reduce fuel consumption and are recognized for their social responsibility and leadership.
